by fas on August 25, 2009 · 23 comments

Probably most of you have heard this topic many a times in the blogsphere but I doubt how many of you took it seriously. If you didn’t take it seriously, you are making one of the biggest mistake in your blogging career. Today I will not be telling you the benefits of having loyal reader base, as you already are knowledgeable about all profits it yields.

Get Loyal ReadersThat discussion is for later time. I will today reveal some of the very basic steps or points required to convert first time readers into your loyal readers. The result may vary but the steps below would surely give you some conversion. Wait before I tell you the steps you should know how you can verify if you are succeeding or not. Some of the visible proofs will be an increase in the number of subscribers and quality comments. One more proof will be increase in the page views.

So lets achieve the above i.e. convert your first time readers into loyal readers.

  1. Be confident that you can do it. Frankly speaking confidence is important, if you think you can do it you will do it, of course you have to work for it. Many will not tell you this point as they think you are already motivated but that is not always the case. So be confident and motivated.
  2. Get a good blog theme. I am not telling you to buy some expensive template/theme. I am telling you to use a good theme which is clear not very flashy. It should look clean.
  3. Write quality posts. Whatever your blog niche is, you should write good posts and try your best to make it interesting, unique and mistake free. This will ensure that first timers are attracted towards your blog and get the secure feeling of getting something good from you.
  4. Avoid distractions. You need to avoid distractions like too much of ads and useless widgets in your blog. You should highlight you content more than other things.
  5. Follow pro bloggers. This is one of the things which you should always do not matter what is your level of blogging. You should follow some of the professional bloggers and see what they are doing to attract more users. If their idea is feasible for you then try them.
  6. Increase interactions. Ask you readers to comment and subscribe. Reply to good comments. Show them some welcome message. Make them feel more important and they will follow you.
  7. Provide Gifts. If it is possible for you then provide some e-books etc to reader or give them some special offers. Even providing some very useful tip work as a gift.

The above are very basic tips for increasing the number of loyal readers. I have greatly benefited from it. If you are a long time reader of my blog you will know the depth of these tips. I will be discussing the advanced type of tips (you may call it secret) in future. Anyways what do you think about these basic tips? Do you have any more tips/points to add?

I would include branding yourself with a good logo in the 2#. Sometimes Content is not king as I mentioned in one of my old post. Charisma is very important when you want to increase your traffic. People want to know who you are, and if you are charismatic enought, they’ll come back and become your faithful reader because they see in you the perfect leader… well, that’s just a caricature,,

Some good and basic tips, not only for new bloggers but also for bloggers who might have forgot one or two about them :)

I do think that you should have mentioned the use of the plugin you’re also using, I think it’s called “What would Seth Godin do” or something like that, the plugin I’m talking about is the one creating the text at the top of your post: “Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.”

Those are some great tips right there. Another one that I personally believe is being consistent. Make sure your readers know what to expect in every one of your post or from your site. The best example I could think of is Copy Blogger with their unique and fantastic headlines. Or John Chow with his fine dining posts.

I missed out one point in my first comment!
Following Pro-Bloggers gives us good information too , but we must not always follow what they preach. Mostly they give advice for people who want to make a career in blogging and they tell things which make starters find it difficut to follow.[example: Investments in Ad networks like Adwords for getting quality traffic]
