How to Avoid Blogger’s Block?

by fas on June 23, 2009 · 6 comments

Blogge'r BlockBefore we get to the solution, we need to understand what is Blogger’s Block. Blogger’s Block is the blogging counterpart for Writer’s Block. Writer’s Block is very well known in between Writer where writer are unable to write something interesting. They are not able to make the right connection between words.

Blogger’s Block is a little complex as it has different meaning for different blogger. The most common is unable to get ideas for your next blog post. I really do not consider it as Blogger’s Block. For me Blogger’s Block means not able to build up a quality post under your niche which will give you satisfaction. If I were to consider the common meaning than I would say I never get a block (or may be I have learned to overcome it).

Anyways whatever be your own definition for it, we need to avoid it. It is very dangerous. Below are the steps you should take to avoid Blogger’s Block.

  1. Understand the basics of blogging and writing. Always remember the basics. I can’t tell you how to do it and what to remember as you need to discover your own sense but once you have grasped it you will get it. It will make writing blog posts easy.
  2. Buy a pocket diary and a pen (most have it). Remember to have it in your pocket or near you. If you are sitting anywhere and get some ideas on your next post write it down. You can write any ideas which related to your blogging. I am very strict follower of this. When you get back to your computer, take the idea and form it into a nice post.
  3. Have a camera or mobile phone equipped with camera while going out. You may not be a photo blogger but you never know when you find something interesting. As people says a photo equals 1000 words it is worth making a blog post out of it.
  4. Have some pre-written posts ready. No matter how good you are you should have some posts in draft. Though remember not to store them. Even if you do not hit the block you should publish the reserve articles within a week and write some more draft for next week. You can think of this step as having you posts ready 2-3 days before posting.
  5. Do some Crazy Experimenting. Do some experiments like I did by following 17 Twitter users. It made a nice post. You do not need to make your own experiment, you can try to replicate others experiments. You can make 2-3 nice posts out of your experimenting.
  6. More. My brain has limited capacity. Be creative and you will find your own steps/solutions.

Remember it is extremely difficult to avoid Blogger’s Block. Read Blogger’s Block cannot be Avoided (I have a funny solution there). But you can overcome it. Below are the some post ideas which use if you have hit the block.

  1. Make a list. Make a list of your best posts or best plug-ins or top twitter users or top sites by Alexa or maybe list of president of USA or ahhh just make a list. Reader always appreciate it. make a small list may be 10 or 20. It is easier to collect the required data. (Use Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, or relevant sources).
  2. Write a Review. Review any product related to you niche. If you do not have any product do a blog review of any similar blog in your niche.
  3. Write a Tutorial or a Tip. Tutorials are very much appreciated and so are tips. If your niche permits these type of post go for it. Just think for 5 minutes about what you want to convey and you will get it.
  4. More. I would say once again be creative. Oh! I forgot you are in block. I advice you to read this nice and useful post 20 Types of Blog Post – Battling Bloggers Block by Darren Rowse (Problogger)

Oops I forgot the ultimate tips for overcoming your block. While people bloggers have block their thinking ability decrease. They stress out and fear crumbles in. So the post ideas I mentioned above may not won’t work at all.

So do any of the steps below while under block.

  1. Go take a nice shower. It need to be nice cold water.
  2. Do some Meditation. Do it alone.
  3. Go out and play some games. No Video Games.
  4. Take a small nap. Do not sleep
  5. Make some drawing or art work.
  6. Eat something nice. Expensive is good.
  7. Talk with your friends and family. The usual stupid talks
  8. Watch television. Something interesting.
  9. Write some thing in a note book. May be a diary.
  10. More. Ahh…. the main thing is do everything accept blogging or thinking about blogging.

The above steps help to clam down, remove stress and help you achieve you normal thinking ability (you may get better). Once you are in normal state start writing again. Well one more tip bookmark this post you may need it tomorrow.

Recently I found that while writing posts, I forget some words and then I keep searching for a good word to use instead of that forgotten word!

Also, I think of a blog post, but while typing, I tend to forget half of the points. So yesterday, I wrote down some points on a piece of paper and It helped my compose a better post!

Thanks for your tips too! I am 100% sure they will help me!

Great analysis dude…

having pre-written posts ready is very very important..because we can’t estimate the busy hrs..so its better to have some posts in draft.
