The New Facebook Lite and @ Mentions

Facebook Lite and @ MentionsThe Internet is swarming with news of “TWITTERIFICATON OF FACEBOOK“. There was news of the introduction of the @ reply feature in Facebook. The above news is now a reality. The @ Mentions introduced by Facebook is little different from Twitter. Facebook is calling it tagging your friend in status updates and post.

As par Facebook now, when you are writing a status update and want to add a friend’s name to something you are posting, just include the “@” symbol beforehand. As you type the name of what you would like to reference, a drop-down menu will appear that allows you to choose from your list of friends and other connections, including groups, events, applications and Pages. Soon, you’ll be able to tag friends from applications as well. The “@” symbol will not be displayed in the published status update or post after you’ve added your tags.

Facebook @ Mentions or Tagging Example

Now this @ Mention is not the only new feature released by Facebook. They were testing a lite version of Facebook for some time. This lite version is just a stripped down version and uses the accounts of the main Facebook i.e. no need for additional sign-ups. It has a simple interface for updating status no extra whistles and also optimized for slower connections. It gives the feel of Twitter. I think it is launched worldwide and not just for US as Mashable mentioned as I was able to sign-in into the new Facebook Lite (I stumbled on Facebook Lite hours before reading the post on Mashable). You can try out the new Facebook Lite. I like the introduction of this lite version as it will enable me to use Facebook on slow connection as well.

You know what Facebook is really dominating the net, well… I bet other then Google the biggest search engine, Facebook will fight head on to create it’s own social search engine.

Facebook is really aggressive in its field. Whatever it does become a buzz.

Lets see if it is going for Social Search Engine or not?

This is interesting now! Facebook is using the tagging approach as Twitter.

Also, the Facebook lite version is accepted by a lot many people with low bandwidth. Good initiative by them.

Facebook Lite is a very welcome feature as many users have slow connections.

I think Lite will help Facebook to increase the number of members especially in undeveloped countries. Also I see that smartphone users will be able to use Facebook faster with this new version. Thanks for the great post.

Just today I saw quite a few marketers putting their opt-in form on their facebook page, this is really getting more and more aggressive.

I like the idea of the @mentions , all though I would rather a connection between Facebook and Twitter that linked those @ items.

Many people love using “@” to mention friends or people they are talking to. I have seen it at many places like in comments, Forums etc.
