Optimize Your Blog As Soon As Possible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not worry friends no one has hacked my blog. I am just trying to memorize the words.

Day before yesterday I was warned to optimize my blog by my Web Host eWebGuru. They suspended my account.

So what went wrong?

Well I tried to install OIO Publisher. Yes I have bought it, that too at the price of 30$ (17$ discount). I used their Web Installer and by mistake I uploaded the files into ‘/plugins’ directory instead of ‘/plugins/oio-direct’ directory. All the Hell broke loose within 10 minutes. I didn’t realize what went wrong. After 10 minutes of activating the plugin I was not able to login into my account. I first thought one of my security plugin has blocked me. So I was assured to be able to login in 1 hour.

I tried logging in after 1 and 1/2 hour. The same problem. I even tried changing browser. I used Firefox this time. I was able to login but I couldn’t do anything there. I was really pissed so decided to sleep and correct thing in the morning. But what a bad morning it was, I woke up at 11pm, missed my tutorial class and on above of that when I visited my blog I saw the greatest disaster ever. I got the message your account has been suspended. Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa……… I just wanted to shout in anger but I tried to control myself.

I contacted support of my Web Hosting provider eWebGuru. I checked my mails to see if they have given some message to me. And there it was, a mail clearly announcing “You Account Has Been Suspended”. I wanted to cry this time but again I calmed down and read the whole mail. The mail said one of the script on my website was causing problem. My blog was using 55% of server processor power and it has caused many problems. They told me that due to that script the server was down for 30 minutes (I felt a little proud for it – I always do, I was even was able to hang our college Linux PC 4 times in 30 minutes while doing simple C programming). The script is a part of OIO Publisher Plugin. I asked (emailed) eWebGuru support team to reactivate my account so that I can do necessary changes. They answered in 5 minutes and I was working on my cPanel deleting and adding stuffs. Finally I was relieved after 3-5 hours of continuous work.

OK that was a really unemotional stupid yet true story. Coming to the main important point, you should optimize your blog. Below are the things I learned and remembered from/due to this incident.

  • Install WordPress Plugins properly be a little cautious.
  • Do not install too many plugins when you do not really require them.
  • Do not install too many widgets and scripts on you Blog.
  • Optimize you Blog to use as less server resource as possible.
  • OIO Publisher support is very nice and friendly (Looks like I forgot to mention an important event, I contacted Simon from OIO Publisher and he helped me well. He even supervised me in installing the plugin properly so I do not have any future problem)
  • eWebGuru is really one of the best Web Hosting company. Well they are sponsoring my Greatest Blog Contest too.
  • I am very emotional. You can see too many emotional outburst in this post.
  • I have OIO Publisher 17$ off coupons which I wanted to give to those who wanted to buy it but I almost forgot about it. Well who ever want it can ask me for coupon by commenting here. I want to be a little mean here. I will give you the coupon if and only if you sign-up for OIO Publisher using my Affiliate link or write a small Review of my Blog on your Blog.

Thanks for sharing your case! Use of a lot of plugins sometimes even result in slow Downtime of the Blog.
Take care about it!
Your Ad about Ebook on Directory Submission is not appearing properly in Opera 9.6. Just take are about it. It is spoiling the look of your Blog header section!

Well sometimes errors do happen, 55% of the server is quite an amount.P.S Captcha is not a good idea. I tried commenting and even though I wrote the right code, it said wrong, and I wrote something else before, did not have the patience to write it again. You are losing comments with captcha.

I am using Captcha as I was getting spams. I will remove it for some day but if I start getting spams again, I will have to re enable it. Well you say that I am losing commentators. Its totally not true by putting Captcha I am ensuring loyal readers and commentators.

My theory works like this if someone wants to comment he will surely comment even if he has to fill the annoying Captcha or rewrite his comment again. No offense or hard feelings but you are one of the example yourself and have proved my theory correct.

the host managed to tell that oiopublisher was the problem?

I had something similar in the past month. i got a warning from my host telling me that my blog was eating too much cpu time, but they couldn’t tell me what was the source of the problem, only it was on my index.php file.

Well they told me that a script was causing the problem. They gave me the URL address of the script and by seeing it I could know that the script is part of OIO Publisher. They didn’t told me that OIO Publisher was the problem (they can never say that).

I am happy that my Web Host at least pinpointed the script which caused the problem.

Ok I deactivated Captcha and 9 spams already which passed Askimet. I am re enabling it.

Great post sharing your experience dude. So you managed to trouble the hosting guys for 30 min :) Having too many plugins is a very big headache for the blog.I recommend not to use more than 10 plugins at most.Monitoring spam is better idea, than having a captcha code which doesn’t encourage users to comment. Its just a suggesstion from my side :)

I can do one thing. I will download some plugin which will work alongside Askimet to stop spams. Until then please tolerate the Captcha

I agree with you but the thing is I had to write a comment 4 times? Because I was entering the write text but still captcha seem to miss the point. You can do one thing, you can have easy captchas, words like cars or bikes names will do wonders.

Aksimet is quite effective, just block all comments with 1 or more link in settings. Also you should use wp-spamfree plugin, will do the work well.

I understand. I also faced this problem when I tried commenting without logging in. It happened because the Captcha image was not updated. You need to refresh the page to get Captcha. Now I have removed it and installed some strong defenses. I will talk about it in coming posts.

You would be surprised to know but your comment always end up as Spam. Look like Askimet is suspicious of you.

I think it happened to me once and I too enlisted the help of Simon, the developer, to look at the issue. Kudos to his responsiveness.
