This is a picture tutorial to help you upgrade your WordPress automatically. First of all you need a plug-in called WordPress Automatic upgrade. You can download the plugin from WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin Page. This tutorial was prepared when I updated from WP version 2.6 to 2.6.1 . I have done some small modifications as par the WP 2.7.1 version, the screenshots has not been changed, I hope it won’t distract you. This tutorial is for self-hosted WordPress blogs as WordPress.com blogs update automatically. If you have not upgraded to 2.7.1 from lower version this will be helpful as this is the safest way to upgrade you WordPress.

I am assuming that you already know how to install and activate plug-in and you are already logged into your WordPress Admin/Dashboard. First go to post section.

Even if you have upgraded to latest WP version, you will need it to upgrade to the nest version. If you have any suggestion please comment and give your suggestion.

But the latest version of wordpress has automatic update available in tools, so why go through adding a plugin?

Let me tell you why use this plug in and not the one in tools.

1. The tool that comes with WP suck. You have to do back up manually. Its not automatic and create problems.
2. The Plug in I have mentioned is the only plug in which helps to automatically upgrade. Just follow steps. It do backups too.
3. The tool that comes with WP was designed/created to replace this plug in (This is a official fact), so when WP developer tried to discontinue support to the plug in . But their tool sucked and was not able to do what it was made for. They restarted to support this plug in (poor WP developers).
4. This plug in is officially recommended and supported by WP. Ask them, they will recommend it. The person who use it know its virtue.
