Did you ever realize that your Twitter Profile is one of the best places to get a quality backlink? Well I didn’t realize it until yesterday. Yesterday I was on twitter for a whole hour and I learnt one thing, “Your Twitter Profile has got a Page Rank, utilize it“.
Page Rank, what’s so new about that every page has a Page Rank? Yes, you are right, all pages of a website have some PR and really there is nothing new about it. But did you ever imagine it as a nice place to get a backlink. I bet you didn’t.

There was one useful observation by Gabinator @SEOcopy of Level343, that every Twitter Profile had different PR. Now in general a page gets better Page Rank if there are quality links linking to it. Now here the case looks different to me. Now as per my experience you at least need 1000 backlink to get some PR. OK if not 1000 than at least 500. But I was thinking how PR of Twitter profile is 2. I certainly know it has not even 100 backlinks. I imagine who is linking to my Twitter profile. But the main things you need to know is that you can get quality backlink to your blog by linking to your blog from you Twitter Profile. I believe most of you already do so. If you do not, then do it.
There was one observation by me too. Its not related to Twitter but related to Page Rank. I found this particular thing about Page Rank tools, that they act different from each other. As I was having talk with SEOcopy, I asked her what is the PR of my profile as my PR determination tool (IE7pro Plug-in) told me it was 0. She told me its 2 by using SEO Quake. Why is the difference in result? I checked my profile PR today with the same tool (IE7pro plug-in) and I got the result as 2. Now this is not the only example to be astonished. @SEOcopy PR at that time was 2 and now it is 0 according to my plug-in. Now these result left me thinking which tool to trust.
Below is the conversation I had with SEOcopy. Some dialogues are missing I am sorry for that.
Situation: SEOcopy was talking about PR of Twitter Profile.
By Me: @ SEOcopy Each profile on Twitter has different PR. Mine is 0 yours is 2. I didn’t knew about it before.
Conversation Missing: SEOcopy told that you should link to your blog from your profile. It is nice way to get backlink.
By Me: @ SEOcopy I do link to my blog from my profile. Now thats a good idea to give your Blog quality backlink.
By Me: @ SEOcopy I have a plugin installed in IE called IE7 Pro. It says @ Burnsie_SEO has PR 0. How is that SEO Quake shows 3 and my plugin 0.
By SEOcopy: @ bloggeragent001 Good question that should give you an idea how important PR is..Not very important. It’s about Ego & less about ROI
By Me: @ SEOcopy Check my PR too. My plugin IE7 pro says it is 0.
DM to me by SEOcopy: Odd I see a PR2 lolol Funny thing with PR is one tool will tell you one thing while another tells you something different.
not worth it
By Me: @ SEOcopy OK. I have a theory about the diff PR. It may be due to presence of Different Google Datacentres.
By Me: @ SEOcopy @ jagadeeshmp These diff tools are querying different Google Datacentres for PR. So we are getting diff PR. Whats your view?
By SEOcopy: @ bloggeragent001 Good theory since I have yet to comprehend how they can give diff PR depending on tools for the same page. Blahhh
In the above Twitter conversation you might have seen one more example where @Burnsie_SEO PR by my Plug in was 0 while by SEO Quake was 3. I tried to formulate one theory about this particular behavior. My theory is that these PR tools query different Google Data centers to get the PR. I may be wrong though but it’s just a theory. What do you think about this problem? Which tools do you use to determine Page Rank? What is the PR of your Twitter Profile? Do you link to your Blog from your Twitter Profile?

You will get traffic from Twitter, but in this article is about PageRank.
Nofollow links are still good, but they won’t get you PageRank. More on the subject: http://gulati.info/2009/03/5-benefits-nofollow-links/

I hate to burst your bubble but all links on Twitter are nofollow… :C
Thanks for this information. Actually, I just had the twitter plug in installed in my blog that automatically post a notification in my twitter profile whenever I made a new article. I think it’s one way of increasing traffic in my blog.

So what. nofollow does not matter much. They give some link juice. May be not much but they do give link juice. Search Engine always follow the nofollow link. Its a hidden truth. Its not just backlink but Traffic. You can get quite good amount of nice traffic as well. I asked I of my friend to tweet a poll and I got 40 votes in few hrs.
links from twitter, facebook orkut etc are never counted as they give no link juice .You can get traffic from these sites but no link juice.
computer problems’s last blog post..Statewise list of mobile number starting with 91
They can be counted as Search Engine follow those links despite of nofollow placed in the link code.
I agree that it is mostly traffic. But my point is its still a backlink to you blog.
if you look at some famous twitter accounts like shoe and chow and etc. you’ll see they really have pr’s… I dont have a twitter account as of yet but I am thinking of having one for business purposes…

Ya Nofollow Link is still good. By the way I saw particular thing about the link on Twitter profile. The link to your website is “me nofollow” rather than simple “nofollow”. I imagine how much is it different from nofollow.I saw one page with a crazy comment. Read it @ http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/topics/good_netiquette_microformats_get_rid_of_the_rel_me_no_followThis article is about PR of Twitter Profile and getting a backlink. Not about increasing PR of you Blog.
Well I didn’t realize I would cause such a stir but, I have to agree with @austingulati it does nothing for your PR in regards to your other projects or social media. Look I try things at least once, but I come from the old school where most of you guys weren’t even born. And to me PR is a waste of time.
I firmly believe one should focus on building relationships with readers and not always follow the leader. Do your own thing “Brand” yourself its hard work and most importantly it takes time. No matter which way you slice it PR does not convert to ROI. Our clients want ROI period.
I wrote a post a while back and I will quote in here. “When the content is truly helpful, informative and interesting, people tend to discuss it with their friends, family, co-workers etc. Distributed across several networks, it gains credibility and authenticity, making it more likely to draw people to your website.” This is turn will give you more traffic than PR after all that is what you want right?

Gabriella. Thanks for such a nice and useful comment. Yup PR may be a waste of time. For me it is a thing to Brag about. The main aim of my post was to inform that different Twitter Profile has got different PR (reasons unknown) and Its a place where you can get a backlink which give you Traffic. I never told it will help you in SEO or increasing PR.
As far as page rank…there are many theories on this. personally, I do not gear a site relevancy by Page rank green bar. There are many top sites , in the first 10 listings that have a lower pages rank then placements on page 2 and so on. Greenbar Page rank changes are never current and updates are not consistent
The problem with PageRank being displayed in a little green bar is that it is very hard to really gauge how valuable a ranking is. The Google PageRank technology is complex containing many variables, some of which I mentioned above, and to interpret a number from 0-10, especially when only Google really knows how it works, is difficult. Worse still, the visible representation, the green bar that the public can see, only changes on a quarterly basis, while the real PageRank of a page changes on a daily basis. Most of the time you are looking at a very outdated ranking value.
Thanks for your information. It was helpful to understand little more about PR.
Thats a pretty good observation. I say so, because i also wondered how Google gave it PR before other sites were updated with the same.

You are partially correct. Links from twitter do give you traffic and backlinks. But the thing is that, Google never follow the links that are placed in the “NoFollow” tags[as per my knowledge]. So we cant expect to get a Good PageRank just but getting links from Twitter. But we can surely get traffic from it. Anyways, The point that every Profile on twitter has its own PageRank was a completely new concept for me. Thanks for bringing it to notice.
I didn’t notice that Twitter profile has got PR but since the link is nofollow, it’s not leaking any PR.

I’m with you the traffic but I beg to differ on the link juice theory.

Hello Agent I have asked you several times to please correct the link attached to my comment. “Do-It-Yourself SEO: A Beginner’s Checklist” or remove it completely… I see it still has not been done. Therefore please the link you have showing under my post should go here

Its not possible. The link is created automatically by a plug in. It cannot be changed. I DM in Twitter, haven’t you read it.
Yeah I notice that too.. Only found it when searching for my own name.

Twitter profile use nofollow links hence it does not help your site/blog to have a better PR. But imagine you have a site with a much lower PR; then you might consider to submit your articles/posts/new content on twitter as your profile page will probably and possibly rank higher for those words in Google. You don’t care much about getting traffic directly from Google or through Twitter… the idea is getting traffic to your site period. And a high pagerank on your twitter profile can help A LOT here.
Travel Blog’s last blog post: 10 things that annoy me when booking holidays online
You are right. But I am not saying your PR will be affected. I just wanted to tell that all Twitter Profile has different PR.
And the race is on. Who can get the most PR 7 backlinks in the least amount of time and still have a site indexed by Google when the smoke clears? A little melodramatic? Maybe, but it does make a point. The fight over backlinks is one of the biggest SEO fights in the game. Everybody seems to think it’s the holy grail of search engine optimization. But is it? And are all backlinks the same? Most think they’re not. And while that’s technically true, they aren’t the be all and end all that some would think. This article explains.
Okay, let’s be honest. A PR 7 backlink is going to be worth a heck of a lot more to your web site’s climb up the SERPs than a PR 0 backlink. But how much different are they really? Well, for starters, in case you’ve been out to tea somewhere, Google has recently downplayed the importance of PR and even took it out of one of its tools. They’re not saying it doesn’t count anymore. They’re just saying that it’s not the big thing that people think it is. And personally, I couldn’t be happier. But that’s another story.
Truth is, I’ve got some sites that have PR 5 and 6 backlinks that are nowhere to be found near page 1 of Google’s search engine while I have sites with PR 1 and 2 backlinks that are on page 1. Why? What’s the reason? Well, the simple explanation is that there is a lot more to ranking with Google, or any search engine for that matter, than just backlinks. If that were the case, people would just beg, borrow and steal to get them. But even more important is the content on the site itself and even more important than that is the relevancy of the keywords to what people are searching for. Add to that mix the amount of time that the site has been online and…,,,,,,,,(?)
